My interest in construction has developed through jobsite experience, community service, academic programs, international travel, and independent research. Each opportunity has shown me that successful development is not only about constructing buildings but about understanding people’s needs and creating spaces and infrastructure that continue to serve communities long after construction is complete.
During my internship with Malitz Construction, I gained firsthand experience with large commercial construction projects. I assisted with estimating, scheduling, safety procedures, operations, and vendor communication while observing how teams coordinate projects from planning through construction.
Through the Texas Ramp Project, I helped construct wheelchair ramps for people with limited mobility. This experience showed me how thoughtful, accessible construction can directly improve someone’s safety, independence, and quality of life.
In Costa Rica, I helped renovate a nursing facility to create a safer and more welcoming environment for its residents. Working alongside others taught me the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and using construction as a form of meaningful community service.
At Texas A&M’s Camp ARCH, I worked with a team to design, estimate, and build a model shed before presenting our completed project. The experience introduced me to construction planning, material selection, budgeting, jobsite safety, and collaborative problem-solving.
While visiting Tanzania, I observed major differences between the infrastructure in Arusha and nearby Maasai communities. The experience helped me understand how access to dependable buildings, roads, water systems, and other essential infrastructure can shape a community’s opportunities and quality of life.
I created Bietz Development to make construction, sustainability, and career information more accessible to students and the public. Through original research, bilingual resources, educational articles, and interactive tools such as Build for Impact, I explore how thoughtful development can create stronger and more sustainable communities.
